PHIL and ALICE Navajo Sheep

Some paintings just don’t materialize the way I would like, as in the case of Phil and Alice, my Navajo Sheep. I liked everything about it but there was an imbalance in the sky vs. the rest of the painting. Rather than fretting about what I should do, I let it sit for a day or two. This Sunday AM, I went out in the solitude of the foothills of the Tobacco Root Mountains. The furthest thing from my mind was this painting. My plans were do something inspired from my walk. I enjoyed being out alone, the brisk air, the snow-capped mountains, the dancing show the 100 plus antelope showed me, the beautiful rocks and the warm sun shinning on my face. Getting my head right to enjoy a Sunday creating.
As I was closing our gate, getting more exciting about painting on this day of rest, I had an Epiphany – that sudden moment of insight. The tall grasses along our fence line Showed me how to finish off my 24 x 24 Navajo She...
